Waynesville Pride Day-Arbor Day is success On April 26, the Waynesville Park Board hosted the Sixth Annual Waynesville Pride/Arbor Day at 8:30 a.m. in Roubidoux Park. This event was originally scheduled for April 19th, but was postponed to the 26th because of inclement weather. In spite of the rescheduling, over 100 volunteers attended the activity. Additionally, several groups that were unable to make the rescheduled date still contributed their time and efforts by cleaning their designated areas the week prior to the new date.
After a short welcome from Waynesville Mayor Cliff Hammock and a brief safety orientation, participants were sent out to their designated areas to pick up trash and litter, plant trees, or clear gravel that had been deposited on the youth soccer fields during recent flooding. Several hundred pounds of trash, litter and other debris were removed from main thoroughfares and parks, six new trees were planted in Roubidoux and Laughlin parks, and a significant number of wheelbarrows full of gravel and rocks were removed from a 20x50-yard section of the U-12 Youth Soccer Field. After about two hours of work the participants returned to the park where they had hot dogs and sodas, courtesy of Cross Creek Realty, and received certificates of appreciation and special Pride Day patches. Marti Bishop, new member of the Waynesville Park Board, was the coordinator for this year's event and did an excellent job planning and completing the many tasks necessary for its success. On behalf of the Waynesville Park Board and the City of Waynesville a special thank you goes to Marti and the following groups and individuals that actually participated on that day or the prior week for volunteering their time and effort to help make our community a better place to work and live: Kiwanis, Waynesville Middle School, Tri City Corvette Club, Bobby Laughlin and the Laughlin Family, Thursday Night Bridge Bunch, Kym McCall's Science Classes, Waynesville High School Key Club, Roubidoux Learning Center Alternative School, Boy Scout Troop 202, Cub Scout Pack 202, Pulaski County Area Retired School Personnel, Waynesville High School FCCLA, C Company of the 701st MP Battalion, Don Moats, Mary Hogan and the Chuck Williams Family. Several groups that committed to work on the original date of the 19th but were prevented due to prior commitments when the activity was rescheduled, included the Westside Youth Group, Pulaski County Young Marines, Concurrent Technologies Corporation, and Harmony Baptist Church Youth Group. A very important part of this event during its six-year history has been the excellent support and assistance received from area sponsors and donors and this year was no exception. A very special thank you goes to the following individuals, businesses, and organizations for their support and contributions: Cross Creek Reality, Pepsi Cola, Security Bank, Bank of Iberia, Missouri Department of Transportation, Waynesville Police Department, Pulaski County Sheriff, Pulaski County REACT Team, Zeigenbein Sanitation, Lone Oak Printing, First State Bank, Designs From Nature, Spur Laundry and Cleaners, Erwin Morriss, Miller Real Estate, Wm.
