The City of Waynesville is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Part-Time Animal Shelter Worker to join the team at the Waynesville–St. Robert Animal Shelter. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the humane care, safety, and wellbeing of animals housed at the shelter.
Position Summary
The Animal Shelter Worker I performs routine and specialized duties related to the daily care of animals, maintenance of shelter facilities, and support of shelter operations. Work includes feeding and watering animals, cleaning kennels, assisting with adoptions, and providing excellent customer service to the public.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Feed, water, and care for shelter animals in accordance with established protocols.
Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and common areas to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
Assist with intake activities, including documentation, tagging, and basic evaluation of animals.
Observe animals for signs of illness or injury and report concerns to supervisory staff.
Interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner; assist with adoptions and inquiries.
Maintain accurate records and follow all shelter policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Ability to work with animals of all sizes and temperaments.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending, walking, and standing for extended periods.
Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Strong communication skills and ability to work well with the public and other staff members.
Valid driver’s license preferred.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time position. Work hours may include weekends and holidays depending on shelter needs.
This position would be housed at the Waynesville Saint Robert Animal Shelter and the Fort Leonard Wood Animal Shelter on an as needed basis. Applicant must be eligible to obtain a post pass.
