The City of Waynesville is seeking a motivated, safety-focused Apprentice Lineman to join our Electric Department. This full-time position works under the supervision of experienced lineworkers while learning the skills necessary to install, maintain, and repair the city’s electrical distribution system.
This position participates in a structured apprenticeship program that includes paid on-the-job training and classroom instruction designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to advance to Journeyman Lineman.
Position: Apprentice Lineman
Status: Full-Time (Potential On-Call Eligibility)
Location: City of Waynesville Electric Department
Key Responsibilities
· Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical lines
· Learn proper climbing, rigging, and line construction techniques
· Operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment
· Load/unload materials and maintain work sites
· Set poles, dig holes, and backfill trenches
· Maintain safe work zones and follow all safety policies
· Respond to outages and emergency call-outs, including after-hours
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent required
· Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)
· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
· Ability to perform physically demanding work (lifting, climbing, bending, standing for extended periods)
